Defective Condoms & Destructive Advertising

One of "the things that grind me" about the advertising/marketing world is when people get so focused on pushing a message that they forget about the product/purpose. The above anti-AIDS promotion is a great example of this: notice how the ribbon is affixed to the condom wrapper? Yes, that is a staple holding in on. Yes, the staple has gone right thru the package, puncturing the condom inside.
Internet marketers commonly make similar oversights: viral mini-sites which don't allow for actual purchases, or flash-based feature-packed websites which just don't function on older computers. Although the legal repercussions of these actions may not be a severe as handing out punctured condoms, the root cause is related. Are you trying to promote AIDS awareness, or safe sex? Are you trying to create a cool website, or move product?
(For the record, I am not equating safe sex/AIDS awarness and online business optimization as equals here)
